Augmented reality image comprising recording a basic image including a subject and a first background, extracting the subject from the basic image, and providing the extracted subject image to a display device for combining with a second background. A camera of the display device may be used for imaging a real-world moving subject which may be sent as video messages between remote handheld portable communicating devices. Subject may be users face or head. An audio sound recording may attach to the video. An AR image component graphical element may be anchored to the extracted subject image. Subject extraction may be achieved using feature detection, colour modelling or shape detection. The system may be embedded in a smartphone app with an augmented reality images created using computer generated visual effects combined with a live view through the phone camera. At A the sending person may record a moving image of their own head a video which separated from the background by the app, with the background automatically discarded with the image sent to a recipient who, at B, sees the head speak to them either on their desktop or in the camera view of the smartphone or tablet. |
