PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detecting device and a steering lock device that are able to detect a malfunction in a magnetic detection element.SOLUTION: A steering lock device 1 comprises: a lock member 3; a magnet 4; a first hole sensor 5 and a second hole sensor 6; a speed detection part that detects a speed v of the lock member 3; a reference time calculation part 14 that calculates a reference time obtained by dividing a predetermined maximum detection range 140 by the speed v, the maximum detection range 140 being determined from a position nearest to the lock position 11 and a position furthest from the lock position 11 on the basis of respective detection ranges of the first and second hole sensors 5, 6; and a determination part that, if a detecting time difference from when one of the first hole sensor 5 and the second hole sensor 6 detects the lock member 3 to when the other detects the lock member 3, at least one of the first and second hole sensors 5, 6 is determined to be malfunctioning.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
