PURPOSE:To detect the strain of the whole body to be inspected by one-time setting by passing light from a light source through a polarizing plate, a sensitive read inspection plate, and a convex lens and transmitting it through the body to be inspected, and further passing the light through the 2nd polarizing plate. CONSTITUTION:The light emitted by the light source 1 is passed through a heat insulating filter 2, the 1st polarizing plate 3, and the sensitive red inspection plate 4, and further passed through a light diffusing plate 6, the large-area body 8 to be inspected, and the 2nd polarizing plate 7 to reach a detection part 9 as light beams F and G. The measurable area of the body whose optical strain is to be detected is determined by the focal length of the convex lens 5 and the distance between the lens 5 and light diffusing plate 6 (accurately between the lens 5 and body 8 to be inspected). The distance between the sensitive read inspection plate 4 and light source 1 is preferably as long as possible and the heat insulating filter 2 is used preferably when the polarizing plates, etc., need to be protected against heat so as to the heat ray from the light source 1.
