In the present invention, there is disclosed an apparatus (1) for purification of gas containing volatile organic compounds, wherein the apparatus employs photolytic and photooxidation phenomena characterized in that polluted gas (21) is irradiated by UV-radiation in the presence of a photocatalyst or after enrichment with an admixture such as hydrogen peroxide. The apparatus (1) comprises a saturation chamber (6), in which the polluted gas (21) is turbulently mixed with hydrogen peroxide aerosol being delivered from a saturation means (7), whereupon the so enriched gas (21) is forced in a photocatalytic reactor (2), in which it flows in serpentine way between bulkheads (5) and sources (13, 14, 15) of UV radiation. Some bulkheads (5) can be provided with a TiOi2 surface layer to give rise of reactive free radicals from steam. |
