FIELD: radio engineering, communication.SUBSTANCE: method of determining the probability of exiting an area identified on a digital map as open terrain, starting from a position within the area, includes dividing the area into a plurality of cells, with an initial transition probability being assigned to one transition from one cell to an adjacent cell, between the position and the edge of the area; adjusting the initial transition probability, performed in the presence of a type of information from the digital map relating to a cell or adjacent cell to obtain an adjusted transition probability and determining the exit probability, performed using the adjusted transition probability.
