The present invention relates to a method to control a hybrid electric vehicle using the driving tendency of a driver. The method to control a hybrid electric vehicle using the driving tendency of a driver according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a step of determining a driving tendency level on the basis of data for determining the driving tendency of a driver; a step of determining whether an engine starting condition is satisfied in a state that the engine is stopped; and a step of performing an engine starting control if the engine starting condition is satisfied. Therefore, the present invention optimizes the state of charge (SOC) of a battery and improves fuel efficiency by using the driving tendency of a driver.
