Provided are: a fabric piece folding device that can prevent degradation of conveyor belts caused by contact with a folding plate; and a control method for the fabric piece folding device. The present invention is provided with conveyor belts (12, 13) that convey a fabric piece, and a folding device (32) that is provided with a folding plate (32a). The folding device (32) is capable of temporarily halting at a waiting position (III) between a thrust-in position (I) where the folding plate (32a) is closest to the conveyor belts (12, 13) and a retracted position (II) where the folding plate (32a) is farthest from the conveyor belts (12, 13). Because the folding plate (32a) can be made to wait at the waiting position (III) that is spaced apart from the conveyor belts (12, 13) after thrusting the fabric piece inward, there is no direct contact between the folding plate (32a) and the conveyor belts and degradation of the conveyor belts caused by contact with the folding plate (32a) can be prevented. |
