PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric discharge light emission device that can obtain a required light emission efficiency with a low driving voltage and a small amount of current and can reduce the power consumption, without making significant changes to an existing driving circuit, for example.SOLUTION: One of a first electrode and a second electrode performing electric discharge light emission is supplied with +Va1 and the other is supplied with -Vb so that a sustain pulse causing positive column electric discharge is given. Next, a dormant period is provided when the first and second electrodes are supplied with -Vb. After that, a wall electric charge storage pulse is given for storing electric charges necessary for positive column electric discharge to be generated in the next cycle by supplying one electrode with +Va2 higher than +Va1 and supplying the other electrode with -Vb.
