[Also in Division F2] A blind rivet comprises a die sleeve 12 surrounding a stem .3 and an enlarged former end 4, which sleeve is harder than the rivet shank 1 but softer than the former end 4. In setting the rivet, .the stem 3 is pulled to first cause the sleeve to enlarge the tail of the rivet before further pulling causes the former 4 to expand the sleeve and further expand the tail. After expansion of the sleeve and rivet tail, the end 4 is wiredrawn through the sleeve die until a locking groove 7 is positioned in a recess 13 in the head 2 and ring 14 swaged into it.</p> |
