PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing apparatus configured to maintain smoothness on a toner layer surface and to maintain smoothness of a surface of a member in contact with the toner layer surface, without reducing fixing performance.SOLUTION: A fixing apparatus 116 fixes a toner image carried on a recording medium P conveyed between a fixing member 116B and a pressure member 116C which come into contact with each other to form a nip section. Toner to be used for forming a toner image contains at least binder resin, colorant, and a mold-releasing agent, has a storage elastic modulus (G') of 100 or less in a temperature range between 120 to 200°C and a peak loss tangent (tanδ) of 10 or more. A contact member 117 for improving a surface state of the fixing member 116B is arranged in the fixing member 116B in contact with the toner image. The contact member 117 is controlled to be brought into contact with or separated from the fixing member 116B when the secular change in gloss of the toner image and/or the fixing member reaches a predetermined condition. |
