<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical pencil configured such that a lead holder 16 rotates in one direction by reciprocation of a tip member 12 owing to a writing pressure, wherein a lead 15 and a chuck 5 are rotated with the rotation of the lead holder 16. <P>SOLUTION: A fastener 6 is externally fitted to the head 5A of the chuck 5, and a connecting member 9 for receiving the fastener 6 is rotatably attached to a slider 3. The tip member 12 is attached to the slider 3, and a gripper 1 is configured to be movable in the longitudinal direction relative to the slider 3. Furthermore, a sliding member 17 is configured to be movable in the longitudinal direction but not rotatable relative to the tip member 12. A rotating mechanism is configured to be able to a lead holder 16 by a given angle in one direction by reciprocating the sliding member 17 in the longitudinal direction relative to the tip member 12.
