A host controller for controlling a storing device comprises: a system memory interface for communicating with a system memory; a storing device interface for communicating with a storing device; an encoding unit for encoding data written in the storing device from the system memory; and a control unit for analyzing a command provided by a processor to extract file encoding information and disc encoding information from the command, controlling the encoding unit to selectively perform a file encoding operation based on the file encoding information, and controlling the encoding unit to selectively perform a disc encoding operation based on the disc encoding information. Accordingly, a host controller supports a fine encoding function and a disc encoding function, and security of a storing device may be reinforced.
