PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of placing prepreg tows in high angle transition regions on a substrate during automated layup of composite laminate structures.SOLUTION: Prepreg tows 32 are placed on a substrate, the substrate having a bend 35 with a curvature extending over a transition region 28 in the substrate. The tows 32 are steered to and laid on the substrate separately in at least a first section 42, 44 and a second section 46 within the transition region 28, and each of the first section 42, 44 and second section 46 has an angular &phgr; orientation that is less than the curvature &thetas; of the bend 35 so as to reduce gathering of the tows 32. |
