1,136,365. Refining iron. GESELLSCHAFT FœR HœTTENWERKSANLAGEN m.b. H. Sept. 18, 1967 [Nov.29, 1966] No.42469/67. Heading C7D. [Also in Division B1] Iron is treated in an agitator ladle, possibly with calcium carbide, calcium carbonate and/or sodium carbonate, to reduce its sulphur and nitrogen contents, and is then converted to steel in a side-blown acid converter, the reactions therein being accelerated by agitating the bath. To effect this agitation the converter may be provided with a polyphase electromagnetic stirrer coil at its base, so arranged that metal is caused to flow up one side of the vessel across the surface in contact with the slag and down the other side. |
