<p>1,225,634. Heat-stabilized polyamides. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 14 May, 1968 [19 June, 1967], No. 22737/68. Heading C3R. Polyamides are heat-stabilized by the incorporation of a combination of (a) a copper compound providing 0À001 to 0À2 wt. per cent Cu and (b) 0À001 to 5 wt. per cent of a tertiary phosphine dihalide R 1 .R 2 .R 3 .PX 2 where R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are independently substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl radicals or R 1 and R 2 together complete a phospholine ring, and X is Cl, Br or I. In the examples of such compounds substituents present in the R groups are Cl, Br and phenolic OH. Specified copper compounds are CuCl 2 , CuCl, CuBr 2 , CuBr, CuI, CuCN, CuSO 4 , the copper salts of acetic, stearic and benzoic acids and of mono- or poly-valent phenols, and the complexes of such salts with ammonia, amines, amides, lactams, phosphites, phosphines and cyanides. Optional ingredients specified are pigments, dyes, light stabilizers, optical brighteners, fillers such as glass or asbestos fibre, lubricants, mould release agents, plasticizers and crystallization promoters. The stabilized polyamides may be used for fishing nets, drive belts, conveyer bands or tyre cords. In examples the combination is incorporated in preformed nylon 6 (R.V. = 3À12) or during the polymerization of caprolactam in the presence of aminocaproic acid and acetic acid.
