<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for maintaining patency of a catheter for a long period of time for flushing the catheter. <P>SOLUTION: This method includes: a step for providing a fluid delivery device capable of dispensing at least a first fluid at a first flow rate and thereafter dispensing a second fluid at a second flow rate which is substantially lower than the first flow rate; a step for dispensing the first fluid into the catheter at the first flow rate using the fluid delivery device for flushing the catheter; and a step for delivering the second fluid into the catheter at the second flow rate using the fluid delivery device to maintain the patency of the catheter by minimizing the inflow of the blood into the catheter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
