<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a workload on device setting by providing a device setting input method wherein operation is easy, intelligible and hardly to cause an operation error, in the input method of the device setting by character code input. <P>SOLUTION: Display of a "main function selection screen" that is a main menu is set (8-1), and an operator operates a downward or upward cursor moving key to select a control function including a function item to be setting-changed (8-3). When a submenu is present in the function item, screen display setting of the sub menu (a lower layer screen) is performed (8-8), and the submenu (the lower layer screen) is displayed (8-2). After a selection end of the function item, processing of "item display of the selection function" is called (8-9), a device setting screen is displayed, and the operator changes setting contents as viewing the device setting screen (8-10).
