摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sealing material which has a low thermal expansion coefficient, excellent devitrification resistance and good flowability at a temperature of not higher than 600°C while satisfying environmental requirements in recent years; and to concretely obtain a sealing material suitable for sealing of a lamp base material and an outer tube used in a high-luminance discharge lamp. SOLUTION: In the sealing material composed of a glass powder and a fire-resistant filler powder, (1) the glass powder is contained in an amount of 35 to 75 vol% and the fire-resistant filler powder is contained in an amount of 25 to 65 vol%, (2) the thermal expansion coefficient is <70×10<SP>-7</SP>/°C, and (3) the glass powder has a glass composition comprising, by mass, 55 to 85% of Bi<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 5 to 20% of B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 1 to 15% of ZnO, and 0 to 7% of SiO<SB>2</SB>.
