A method and an apparatus for encoding and decoding an image by using image partitioning are provided to encode a large size picture or a high pixel image more effectively by using an encoding method of a multi viewpoint image sequence. An image is divided into a plurality of areas(110). The areas are assigned respectively to view points of the multi viewpoint image sequence(1210). The areas are encoded based on an assignment result by using an encoding method of a multi viewpoint image sequence(130).
