[Also in Division F2] A motor vehicle with a rigid rear axle 11 connected to the vehicle frame 14 by longitudinal leaf springs 12 and driven through a differential 18 by a drive shaft 22 has secured to the underside of the floor pan directly above the end of the driveshaft 22 a snubber 26 to contact the shaft 22 under conditions of extreme jounce or axle wind-up and prevent the differential from contacting the vehicle body. The snubber 26 comprises a sheet metal backing to which a rectangular rubber block (32) is bonded and a lamina of low friction material such as polytetrafluorethylene or nylon is bonded to the underside of the block (32). |
