An apparatus for controlling power supply, method thereof, and GPS receiver including the same are provided to improve a speed of a GPS signal acquisition by obtaining a GPS(Global Positioning System) signal parallel with OS(Operating System) booting/navigation program loading. A method for controlling power supply comprises the following steps: a step for supplying an external power source to a GPS power supplier if the external power source is detected(420); a step for operating a GPS initial information retrieval of a GSP module by enabling the GPS power supplier by a external power source detection signal(430, 440); and a step for operating communications based on GPS information of the GPS module by operating a navigation program if a power switch is turned on(460).
