PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine capable of attaining optimization of acceleration performance of a vehicle provided with the internal combustion engine and a turbo-supercharger. SOLUTION: ECU 1A applied to the vehicle provided with the internal combustion engine 50 and the turbo-supercharger 40 is provided with an acceleration optimization determination means for determining that optimization of torque of the internal combustion engine 50 should be attained or that optimization of exhaust energy of the internal combustion engine 50 should be attained according to the driving state of the vehicle; and an acceleration optimization control means for controlling InVVT 61 and ExVVT 62 based on the determination result determined by the acceleration optimization determination means. The acceleration optimization control means controls InVVT 61 and ExVVT 62 in a control amount in which at least torque is included in a predetermined range R1 of torque set according to the control amount relating to valve timing of InVVT 61 and ExVVT 62 when attaining optimization of the torque.
