PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that heretofore there is a light shielding surface for protecting the eyes and the face from the harmful light and litter generated during arc welding and the guard to be applied to the face with one hand allows only one hand to be used in the work; the guard to be put on the head is narrow in the field of view and laborious; the work with the guard put on the face in an environment of high temperature is hard to bear; others such as the guard formed by attaching a light shielding plate and the like to a welding holder are large and bulky and make a working posture unreasonable. SOLUTION: A heat resistant light shielding filter is disposed at the top end of a slide shaft unreeled from a holder along a welding rod gripped by a holder and is brought near to a welding point so that the welding state is observed through the filter. Radially spreading arc light creates a complete shadow and a half shadow on the back of a small light shielding filter and by positioning the light shielding filter so as to confine the face within the shadow, the face can be guarded from the direct light of the harmful light and the litter. The light shielding filter which can be easily reeled up and down is light, is less bulky and is good in the field of vision. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
