The paper is coated on one side with a thermoplastic material (A) on top of which an adhesive-repellent layer (B) is applied. A further coating of water-activatable adhesive (C) may be applied over (B). (B) pref. consists of complex salts of 3- or 4-valent metals with phosphate esters, long-chain monohydric alcohols or alkyl phenols, or of PTFE, in an amount of 0.1 to 25 (pref. 0.2 to 10) g/m2. An example is an aluminium alkyl phosphate complex in an aqueous HCl solution containing is-propanol. The coated papers are suitable for use as wallpapers or posters which can be readily stripped from walls or hoardings.
