Apparatus for generating a threshold value indicative of a status change, comprising a trend projection engine for processing a plurality of sensed values in an order of value size to generate a corresponding predicted value for each of the plurality of sensed values, by reference to a value sequence trend of the plurality of sensed values, a comparator for comparing one or more of the plurality of sensed values against their corresponding predicted values to identify an abnormal sensed value which differs from its corresponding predicted value by a pre-specified amount, and a threshold generator for using the abnormal sensed value to identify the threshold value.
