<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce strength of a support member more than before, while preventing a skew image and obtaining a stable image, by constituting an image forming apparatus so that an image reading part is not directly affected by the load of the image forming apparatus user or the like, even if a support member receives the load of the image forming apparatus user or the like. <P>SOLUTION: If a vertically downward load is applied on a left cover 20 corresponding to the front side of a left scanner support member 8, only the front side of the left scanner support member 8 is displaced vertically downward together with the left cover 20.
