PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform serial communication at a bit rate close to a desired one irrespective of frequencies of clocks for operation. SOLUTION: This semiconductor device includes a serial communication interface (109) which operates according to predetermined clocks for operation. The serial communication interface is provided with: a baud rate generator (202) which counts the clocks for operation, and generates a reference clock for specifying unit transfer time based on the counted clocks for operation; and a transmission/reception controller (201) for performing transmission/reception control according to the generated reference clock. The serial communication interface is further provided with a bit rate modulator (203) which attains the desired bit rate by partially masking supply of the clocks for operation to the baud rate generator to attain the bit rate close to the desired bit rate.
