PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of preventing an obstacle such as tapping sound caused by a gap of a valve operating system at engine starting and improving the productivity of a cylinder head and the rigidity of the vicinity of a lash adjuster. SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine has an oil passage 26 for flow of engine oil, which communicates with a through hole 24 provided in the outer wall of the lash adjuster 18, and when the lash adjuster 18 is inserted in a reception part 22 for receiving the lash adjuster 18, air between the reception part 22 and the lash adjuster 18 is removed through the oil passage 26.
