PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass plate for display devices wherein the depth of a compression stress layer is increased, while the surface compression stress is prevented from being excessive only by chemically tempering without carrying out a post treatment. SOLUTION: The glass plate for display devices is obtained by chemically tempering a glass plate comprising, as represented in terms of a molar percentage based on the following oxides, 50-74% SiO<SB>2</SB>, 1-10% Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 6-14% Na<SB>2</SB>O, 3-15% K<SB>2</SB>O, 2-15% MgO, 0-10% CaO, and 0-5% ZrO<SB>2</SB>, wherein the total content of SiO<SB>2</SB>and Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>is 75% or less, the total content of Na<SB>2</SB>O and K<SB>2</SB>O, i.e. Na<SB>2</SB>O+K<SB>2</SB>O, is 12-25%, and the total content of MgO and CaO, i.e. MgO+CaO, is 7-15%.
