PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preparation method which gives a poly(3,4-alkylenedioxythiophene) having high electrical conductivity, is simple, ensures safety (an aqueous medium), and uses inexpensive reagents. SOLUTION: The method for producing the poly(3,4-alkylenedioxythiophene) doped with an aromatic sulfonic acid anion includes: a step [I] of mixing an aromatic sulfonic acid salt, a 3,4-alkylenedioxythiophene expressed by formula (1) and ferric sulfate (III) into an aqueous medium, and obtaining a polymerization product through oxidative polymerization of the 3,4-alkylenedioxythiophene; a step [II] of washing the polymerization product obtained in the step [I] with water; and a step [III] of heating the polymerization product washed in the step [II].
