<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the shape instability occurring in the cutting of a glass ribbon. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for producing glass sheets, a glass ribbon 115 is melt-drawn along a draw direction 119 into a viscous zone 129 downstream from a root of a forming wedge 111. The glass ribbon 115 is drawn into a setting zone 131 downstream from the viscous zone 129, wherein the glass ribbon is set from a viscous state to an elastic state. The glass ribbon 115 is further drawn into an elastic zone 133 downstream from the setting zone 131. In the elastic zone 133, the region of the glass ribbon 115 is stabilized using a predetermined pressure difference between a first surface and a second surface of the glass ribbon 115 along a width of the glass ribbon extending transverse with respect to the draw direction 119. The stabilized region inhibits shape instability from propagating upstream through the glass ribbon 115 to the setting zone in the cutting of the glass ribbon 115 into the glass sheet 125. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
