PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical element and a mold set for molding an optical element, which can prevent deterioration in surface precision even if a releasing agent is used. SOLUTION: The method for producing an optical element includes a pressurizing step for pressurizing a material 20 for the optical element by a pair of molds 11, 12. The pressurizing step includes a step of supplying a releasing agent, in which the supply of a releasing agent 30 into between the pair of molds 11, 12 is started after the start of the pressurization of the material 20 for the optical element and before the completion of the pressurization.
