<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide magnetic devices that may be used in spin torque oscillators. <P>SOLUTION: A system 2 comprises a spin torque oscillator (STO) 4 including a magnetic device 6 comprising at least one antiferromagnetic layer 8 weakly exchange coupled to a free layer 10. The magnetic device 6 comprises the free layer 10 having a magnetic anisotropy. The magnetic anisotropy is at least partially nonuniform. The magnetic device further comprises an antiferromagnetic layer 8 adjacent to and weakly exchange coupled with the free layer 10.
