<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel for hot-forging, which has excellent machinability and fatigue strength and hardly generates pseudo-pattern at the time of applying a magnetic particle testing. <P>SOLUTION: The steel for hot-forging, has the composition comprising, by mass%, 0.30% to <0.60% C, 0.10-0.90% Si, 0.50-2.0% Mn, ≤0.080% P, 0.010-0.90% S, >0.005% to 0.10% Al, 0.01-1.0% Cr, 0.001% to <0.040% Ti, 0.0003-0.004% Ca, 0.0003% to <0.040% Te, 0.0030-0.020% N, ≤0.0050% O and the balance Fe with impurities, and satisfies a formula (1), and the diameter corresponding the circle of sulfide inclusion is ≤20 μm.
