OPERATING A POWER PLANT WITH PYROLYSIS OIL BASED FUEL

A power plant may include a power house, a tank farm, and a fuel treatment building. The power house may include an internal combustion engine adapted to be operated with pyrolysis oil based fuels. The power house may further include a conditioning and circulating system with a conditioning unit and a fuel recirculating unit, forming a fuel recirculating cycle together with an engine fuel system. The tank farm may include tanks for pyrolysis oil based fuels, a switching fuel or its components, and crude oil based fuels. The power plant may also include a first switching unit and a second switching unit to release fuel mixes from the fuel recirculating cycle. The power plant may allow switching fuels while continuously operating the internal combustion engine with various fuels.

1. A pyrolysis oil based fuel power plant comprising:
a tank system comprising a pyrolysis oil based fuel tank and at least one cleaning fuel tank; a fuel treatment system comprising a pyrolysis oil based fuel treatment unit fluidly connected to the pyrolysis oil based fuel tank and configured to treat the pyrolysis oil based fuel and a cleaning fuel treatment unit fluidly connected to the at least one cleaning fuel tank and configured to generate the cleaning fuel by mixing components of the cleaning fuel; a fuel conditioning unit fluidly connected to the pyrolysis oil based fuel treatment unit and the cleaning fuel treatment unit and configured to condition a viscosity of the pyrolysis oil based fuel by adding at least one of the cleaning fuel and a component of the cleaning fuel; an internal combustion engine for operation with the pyrolysis oil based fuel and the cleaning fuel, the internal combustion engine comprising an engine fuel system; a fuel recirculating unit configured to receive fuel from the fuel conditioning unit and to supply the engine fuel system with fuel, the fuel recirculating unit comprising a circulation tank, which is fluidly connected to the fuel conditioning unit and the engine fuel system; and a control unit configured to control the fuel conditioning unit to condition the fuel selected for being provided to the engine fuel system and to provide the same to the circulation tank, thereby allowing switching between pyrolysis oil based fuel operation and cleaning fuel operation while continuously operating the internal combustion engine.
