The method involves generating a working finger print (HDOC) and a representation file (IMG) of a working document (DOC) by a remote server (SRV1) and transmitting the finger print and the file to a client (CLT) via an extended communication network (INT). A representation fingerprint (HIMG) of the file is generated, and a to-be signed file (SIGINFO) including the working and representation fingerprints is generated. A client signature (SIGVALUE) is generated from the to-be signed file by the client. Client signature file (SIGF) including the to-be signed file and the signature is generated.
