A manifold head for a column in which fluid is conditioned by flow through a conditioning component, such as a heater or filter, comprises an external wall 50 and an internal flow guidance formation 52,54 which are constituent parts of a unitary extruded body section. Preferably the extruded section comprises an inner tubular wall 52 and an outer tubular wall 50. The manifold is formed from a portion cut from a longer extruded tube. An inlet port 66 extending through the internal wall 52 and a bridging portion 54 between the tubular walls, and an outlet port 77 through the outer wall may be formed in the cut piece. One end of the cut piece may be machined to receive a sealing cap (76, Figure 8) for closing that end. The other end may be machined (82,84,86) such that the inner wall can attach to the conditioning component and the outer wall can attach to an outer bowl of the column. A multi-manifold head may be similarly produced where the extruded body sections of the individual manifolds are constituent parts of a unitary body section (Figures 9a-c). Ports (66, 70, 90, 92) may be formed in the unitary body section and port (90) may be plugged (94) to define the desired flow path for the fluid. |
