A method of detecting a gut parasite infestation such as tapeworm in an animal or human subject, the method comprising testing a saliva sample for the presence and/or amount of an antibody (such as from the IgG or IgA class) to a parasite antigen. The test may be an ELISA and may include a calibration step and a control to correct for non-specific binding.
