A wheel drive system according to exemplary embodiments may include: a generator connected to an engine to generate electrical energy; a front axle that drives at least one front wheel through a front drive shaft; a rear axle that drives at least one rear wheel through a rear drive shaft; and a central connection unit provided to be connected to the front drive shaft and the rear drive shaft. The front and rear axles may include: front and rear electric motors that generate driving torques; and front and rear transmissions that change the driving torques into required conversion torques according to the speed of the construction machine and transmit the conversion torques to the front and rear wheels. Since the plurality of transmissions may have different transmission ratios and different transmission time points, the torques can be continuously transmitted during transmission while satisfying the traction load of the construction machine. In addition, the small and light electric motors can be used, thereby making the construction machine light and small and improving fuel economy and work efficiency.
