<p>The present invention is directed to a rigid implant- protecting and stabilizing device comprising an elongate body perforated by a central bore, wherein said device is of a size and shape such that it is capable of completely or partially containing a sensor element within said central bore. The invention also encompasses methods of implanting sensor elements in a protected environment within bone tissue.</p>
