[Class 103 (i).] Shoes acting on drums ; compensating for wear ; force transmitting mechanism.-In road vehicle construction the chassis and substantial portions of the sides, ends, and roofs are constructed upon templates by shaping the individual structure members to conform to the templet, mounting such members upon the templet and securing same together, assembling the chassis, side, end, and roof portions and securing same together to form the vehicle. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also constructions and applications of brakes. The brake system comprises hand-applied external brake on drive shaft for emergency application and four-wheel brakes pneumatically applied by a separate pedal for normal application. The drive shaft 278 of each of the motors is provided with an external drum 279, Figs. 13 (Cancelled) and 14 (Cancelled), having shoes 282 pivoted at 281. The flanges 285 of the shoes are engaged by screwed rods 288 passing through apertures in the flanges and adjustable by the nuts 293, springs 291 being provided. The rods 288 are pivotally engaged with a two-armed lever 294 carried by a stub shaft 297. The stub shafts 297 of the two brakes are in alignment with each other and with an intermediate transverse shaft 301 having an arm 305 actuated by a rod from the emergency hand-brake lever. The transverse shaft 301 is provided with arms 302 which by means of studs 304 engage pads 299 on the ends of arms 298 keyed to the stub axles 297. Adjustment of the brake shoes is effected by the screwed rods 288 and relative adjustment or equalizing of the brake action of the two brakes is effected by the studs 304 on the arms 302. Each of the drive wheels is provided with a brake comprising a brake drum 91, Fig. 7 (Cancelled), which is clamped between the wheel 88 and the flange 87 of the twin axle 62. A pair of brake shoes 93 are pivoted on adjacent pins 94 in the housing 64 and are provided with rollers maintained by springs against an S-shaped cam 102 fixed on a shaft 103 journalled in a bearing 104 in the housing 64. Shaft 103 is provided with a worm wheel 105 in engagement with a worm 112 having a shaft 111 carried by a housing 109 which is rotatable about an axis common to the shaft 103 and a spindle 119. Rotation of the shaft 111 adjusts the brake shoes by means of the cam 102. Actuation of the brakes is provided by the rotation of the housing 109 by means of crank arm 122 connected to a pneumatically actuated connecting-rod connected to a pneumatic diaphragm housing 124, Fig. 5 (Cancelled). The brakes for the front wheels are actuated by pneumatic diaphragm housings 134, the brake shoes being supported by members 132 pivotally secured by vertically disposed hinge pins on the axle 131 while brake drums similar to those of the drive wheels are also provided. Lubricating means are provided. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
