354,739. Rotary filters. PICKARD, J. A., 21, Rosemont Road, Acton, London. Feb. 10, 1930, No. 4481. [Class 46.] A filter body which can be turned about a horizontal supporting axis is fitted with a number of filter units of the inwardly-drained multiple plate type through which the liquid passes in parallel. Edge-filter elements 15, Fig. 1, such as described in Specifications 312,944 and 334,569, [both in Class 46, Filtering &c.], are mounted on plates 13, 14, in a chamber 1, bolted to a wide flange 4 on a hollow shaft 3, mounted in bearings 5 on a bracket 6 on a travelling platform 8. The platform also carries a motor 12 and gear box 11 by means of which and a toothed wheel 9, the shaft 3 and chambers 1 are rotated. The liquid under treatment to which filter aid may have been added from a vessel 26 is supplied through a pipe 20, a junction piece 20<1>, and a hollcw inner shaft 16 to the space between the plates 13, 14. The filtered liquid passes from within the filter elements to the space between the plate 14 and the flange 4, and is discharged through the shaft 3 and a pipe 21. Fig. 2 shows modified apparatus in which the chamber 1 is supported and rotated by a hollow inlet shaft 16 at one end and is supported peripherally at the other by rollers 1a. An outlet shaft 3 at the other end has a downwardly turned extension 24. Means for heating the filter chamber and internal distributing vanes or baffles may be provided. |
