This contact-free method for measuring the temperature of a glass having a given composition containing iron comprises steps that involve: (a) irradiating the glass with radiation making it possible to observe an absorption band of the glass in the spectral band 300 nm to 900 nm, and measuring the position of the absorption edge of the glass in this spectral band; (b) determining the temperature of the glass by using a reference curve giving, for the given glass composition, the change in the position of the absorption edge of the glass in at least a part of the spectral band 300 nm to 900 nm depending on the temperature.
