<p>A check valve is described comprising a valve member (10) movable with a passage (12) provided in a housing (14), the passage (12) defining a seating surface (28) with which the valve member (10) is engageable to control fluid flow along the passage (12), biasing means (22) applying a biasing load to the valve member (10) urging the valve member (10) into engagement with the seating surface (28), and an environmental seal member (30) secured to the valve member (10) by a retainer member (36), the environmental seal member (30) being engageable with the seating surface (28), wherein the retainer member (36) includes a lip (48) elastically deflectable by the environmental seal member (30) upon compression and/or deflection of the environmental seal member (30) such that when the valve member (10) engages the seating surface (28), engagement of the environmental seal member (30) with the seating surface (28) results in compression and/or deflection of the environmental seal member (30), in turn causing deflection of the lip (48) of the retainer member (36) into engagement with the seating surface (38). Extrusion of the environmental seal member (30) between the retainer member (36) and the seating surface (28) can thus be reduced.
