A state where the operation unit (12) is positioned at the right is thereby maintained due to a magnetic action between the right magnet (21) and the right holding magnetic element. Similarly, a state where the operation unit is positioned at the left is maintained due to a magnetic action between the left magnet (21) and the left holding magnetic element. In addition, a Hall element (34) is provided in a side wall section (34) of the case (11). The position of the operation unit (12) is detected using the Hall element (34). Positioning the magnet in the side section of the operation unit (12) makes it possible to easily reduce the thickness of the switch device (1).
