PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology, in requesting OCR processing from an application to another application, capable of creating an electronic document having a result of the OCR arranged at an appropriate position in a scanned image.SOLUTION: An external terminal 50 (electronic document creation application 110) extracts a plurality of partial areas 230 from a character area 210 of a scanned image 200 received from an MFP 10, and detects the positions of the respective partial areas 230. The external terminal 50 transmits image data and instructions for OCR processing related to the respective partial areas 230 to an application 120. The external terminal 50 receives results of the OCR processing related to the respective partial areas 230 from the application 120, and distributes text information on the results of the processing to detection positions in the partial areas corresponding to the results of the processing to create an electronic document (searchable PDF) 500.
