PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform cell measurement in unlicensed frequency bands and/or in channels with interference.SOLUTION: A wireless user equipment (UE) device defines a reference symbol vector for a cell 502. Each individual element of the reference symbol vector corresponds to an individual subcarrier of the cell that carries an individual reference symbol. The UE performs channel estimation at each individual element of the reference symbol vector 504. The UE calculates the cell strength of the cell by cross-correlating channel estimates of different elements of the reference symbol vector 506.
