Convention date, March 7, 1931. [Class 17 (ii).] A method of assembling parts to form footwear elements comprises feeding in sheet form rubber or rubberized material 2 carried on a drum 1 to a belt conveyer 4, where at various stations 6 &c. material is superposed to form spaced footwear assemblies. Waste material is removed at a further stage by a heated knife, and the assemblies are pressed between rolling bands 22 before discharge for further treatment. The device is applicable to flat parts of rubber boots, such as boot legs, uppers, gaiter uppers, &c. The sheet stock 2 is passed over a glass plate 3 strongly illuminated from below to permit inspection for flaws. Opened-out leg forms 5 are placed on the sheet by an operator from a pile 6. Ankle pieces 7, 8, and strapping pieces 9 are assembled by a second operator from piles 10, 11, &c. Heel stays 13 &c. are added at further stations, and then the parts are cut or melted out by an electrically-heated knife. The parts are pressed together by a short endless belt 22 on rollers 23, 24. The driven roller 24 is resiliently mounted and pressed down on belt 4 and preferably co-operates with roller 25 below the belt. Roller 23 is stationarily mounted. |
