Embodiments of the present invention disclose a method for security authentication of a mobile communications system, and a network device. The method for security authentication of a mobile communications system includes: receiving, by an HSS, a request for a special authentication vector and is sent by a proxy server, where the request for a special authentication vector is sent by the proxy server after the proxy server receives a request for an authentication vector and is sent by an SGSN; generating, by the HSS, a special authentication vector according to the request for a special authentication vector; and sending, by the HSS, the special authentication vector to the proxy server, so that the proxy server, an access network element, the SGSN, and an LTE UE complete security authentication. By using the method for security authentication of a mobile communications system, and the network device that are disclosed in the embodiments of the present invention enable an LTE UE can use a 2G/3G network. |
