PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an oxygenate which enables more efficient synthesis of an oxygenate from a mixed gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide.SOLUTION: A catalyst for oxygenate synthesis consists of a platinum group element carried in a support and is used to synthesize an oxygenate from a mixed gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide, and the carrying amount of the platinum group element to 100 pts.mass of the support is 0.5 pt.mass or more, and the degree of metal dispersion of the platinum group element measured by the CO pulse method is 25% or greater.
